Manufacturing Engineering Technician

Specialist in CNC Machining

Job Summary A self motivated individual responsible for performing multiple duties in direct support of production operations for fiber optic imaging components.  A qualified individual will be able to design, program, setup, and operate CNC machines.  Ability to read and interpret sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or samples to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, setup requirements and customer specifications. Must also have ability to set-up and operate manual machines such as lathe or mill when required. The ideal candidate will have experience cutting, forming, and polishing glass fiber optic plates and have experience supervising operators in a machine shop environment.   

 Perform complex and specialized machining operations on a variety of materials including metals, polymers and ceramics.  The candidate should have experience in a CNC machine job shop or production environment. Core competencies include strong organizational skills, effective time management, technical knowledge, team player, results orientated, problem solving, and effective communication skills.   

 Essential Job Functions    

 1. CNC Programming Support (30%) – Develop, program and test CNC code for production operators. Be responsible for writing new CNC programs, setup instructions, estimating and making changes to existing CNC programs.  Work closely with the Shop Floor, Engineering, Product Line Managers, and other team members.  Create and maintain part programs for all types of numerical control applications taking into consideration such factors as machining parameters, cutter selections and control limitations, while ensuring the design intent and component quality is achieved. Reports and corrects production problems caused by the incorrect manufacturing process, tooling, or programming methods to immediate supervisor   

2. Production Fixture Design/Fabrication (20%) – Design and fabricate fixtures to support production operations.  Applies knowledge, when required, for manufacturing support fixtures from raw material to finished part specifications utilizing manual lathes, mills, or drilling machines, as required.   

  3. Design for Manufacturability Support (15%) – Provide technical expertise in support of new product design as defined by the customer during the quoting phase. Be involved in the proof of new technology, first part inspection, fixture design, and programming.   

  4. Develop Process Improvements (15%) – Own several process improvement projects to improve production operations.  Define a schedule, manage timelines and deliverables, document and report progress. Involved in Lean Manufacturing projects and events.   

 5. Training Support (10%) – Train and develop CNC operators in best practices.   

     

 PROGRAMMER/ANALYST - 

SPRING SEMESTER INTERNSHIP FOR GRADUATING COMPUTER SCIENCE MAJORS 

  

Under the supervision of the IT Manager, the primary function of this position will be the development of internal web based business applications in support of all departments.  The ideal candidate will have a diverse technical background with an emphasis on programming.    

Responsibilities 

  • Full cycle development – analysis, design, development and implementation
  • Creating specs to determine feasibility, cost and required time to complete
  • Developing test and implementation plans
  • Coordination of system/end-user testing of software enhancements and projects
  • Assisting with the development of customer or company information management standards
  • Evaluating modern technology trends
  • Contributing to business assessment, analyzing user needs and designing business systems

Requirements:  

  • Major in CS or equivalent technical field
  • Experience developing active server pages (ASP)
  • Solid understanding of VB or C#
  • Strong knowledge of HTML
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work on a team as well as independently
  • Professional image in attitude, conduct and attire
  • Ability to adapt to and learn emerging industry leading information technologies

Preferences: 

  • Conceptual understanding of PHP
  • Knowledge of relational database design and development
  • Understanding of Access databases and associated VBA programming
  • Industry certifications such as MCPD, MCTS, etc.
