Quality Engineer
Candidate Overview: The candidate for this position will have a strong background and experience in the Quality Assurance and Inspection programs. The candidate is to be self-motivated, organized, results oriented and able to work with all levels of personnel in a fast paced and growing environment. This position reports to the Quality Assurance Manager. Position responsibilities: · Review and enhancement inspection department documentation. · Develop tasked based training metrics and job instruction breakdowns. · Improve inspection process sampling plans based on process capabilities. · Work closely with inspection supervision to improve department capabilities and performance. · Evaluate returned materials, create and track associated corrective actions. · Conduct internal quality system audits. Position requirements: · 5 to 10 years relevant experience. · Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma Certification a plus. · BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering a plus

1st
1 Position

Assembler
Perform one or more of the following assembly operations as may be assigned and/or rotated. Assembly operations and the handling of fiber require wearing gloves. Assembly: Select and obtain the appropriate fibers for the product to be assembled. Select appropriate fixture. Manually lay fibers into fixture. Ensure fibers lay flat, there are no "voids" or broken fibers, fibers are not twisted and each assembly has proper number of fibers. Build and fasten appropriate number of clamps onto completed assembly. Carry completed assembly upstairs to draw staging area.

2nd
1 Position

Draw Handler
Primarily following techniques for careful handling, transfer and collection of fiber. Package finished products. Place fibers from the draw tower into storage racks. Bundle fibers from completed runs and carry to storage area and place in racks. Record production data on product “run sheets”. Ensure fibers are properly labeled with appropriate machine, operator, time, date or any other pertinent data. Additionally assist with a variety of visual, dimensional and physical checks of glass fiber products being drawn from the Draw Towers. Use micrometers to check the product size to ensure process is within specification. Use microscope to visually check physical cross section of multi products. Notify tower operator and/or supervisor personnel of “out of specification” conditions. Follow all established safety rules and regulations and utilize required safety devices. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner. Sweep up fibers, chips or other debris from floors. Detect malfunctioning equipment or other unsafe conditions and notify appropriate personnel. Perform other similar duties as required or as requested by supervisor.

2 Positions

Inspector
Perform quality control inspection on tapers and other fiber optical products. Visually inspect parts to detect any defects, chips, cracks and/or other blemishes in the pieces. Take a variety of physical dimensional measurements such as height, diameter, bevel angles, curve and sag, using various precision measuring devices. Use optical measuring instruments to make close visual measurements of various features, and to measure taper magnifications and distortion. Ensure items meet all required specifications and company quality standards. Document inspection results on required forms. Perform inspections of raw materials according to established procedures and prepare results reports as required. Must be able to use micrometers, optical comparators, etc., read blueprints, work from detailed specifications. Prior machinist training is desirable.

Machine Operator - Polishing
Set up and operate several types of polishing machinery in several work cell areas as may be assigned. Select required "laps", carriers, jigs or other fixtures for the job. Make required adjustments to "spindles", "swings", etc.; adjust pressures. Set timers for required polishing times. Monitor the operations making periodic checks of the process. Monitor polishing compound levels and ensure proper flow: monitor the temperature of polishing surfaces and maintain proper conditions, adjusting flow of compound as required. Polish products to required specifications and dimensions and hold tolerances as required. Work from engineering router sheets, prints and specifications. Use a variety of optical measuring devices to visually inspect pieces for defects and to check physical dimensions. Ensure features of pieces are proper. Mount various light guide products into jigs and fixtures for grinding and polishing operations. Dismount items after polishing operations.

Machine Operator - Mildex
Set up and operate mildex edge grinding machinery. Set up and make minor adjustments to manual machine controls for grind depth. Set and adjust machine speeds, feeds, guides, jigs, fixtures, etc. Use optical centering equipment as required in grinding operations. Monitor coolant levels in machines and replenish as necessary, and ensuring proper flow during grinding operations. Monitor tool wear and change and/or dress wheels, etc. as required. Work from prints, specifications, engineering routing sheets, etc. Grind material to specified dimensions, holding tolerances as required. Use a variety of precision measuring devices to check dimensions of products. Visually check products for obvious defects, marking any defects and notifying appropriate personnel. Ensure features and surfaces are proper.

3rd
1 Position

Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Perform diversified repair and maintenance duties to support glass drawing, pressing and fusing operations. Work as the primary electro-mechanical support technician for all Material Fabrication area equipment. Assist with area Preventive Maintenance system, including equipment and supplies inventory and tracking. Interfaces with Group Leaders, Supervisors, Managers and Engineering on both operational issues and personnel training as they pertain to area processes and equipment. Serve as a technical resource in the manufacturing departments, for employees and engineering. Also needed are good verbal communication skills, comprehension of written material and product specifications, machine details, gages, and precision measuring devices. Must be physically capable to climb stairs, ladders and to carry moderate weights. Monitor Manufacturing Support Technicians (MST). Ensure that MST personnel are trained in all necessary procedures. Essential Job Functions 1. Maintain electro-mechanical equipment in assigned production departments. Includes equipment such as electric furnaces, PLC controllers, small motors with gear, belt and chain drive systems. 2. Work on equipment set-ups, and installations and improvements. 3. Troubleshoot manufacturing process problems related to machinery and equipment. troubleshooting, repair 4. Maintain Drawing workshop, tools and other equipment. 5. Must be able to work from blueprints, use precision measuring devices such as micrometers, vernier calipers, depth mics, indicators, and comparators. 6. Basic understanding and ability to run machine shop equipment: drill press, milling machine and lathe. 7. Monitor operations of manufacturing support group ensuring completion of support tasks as prescribed by supervisory personnel. 8. Follows all established safety rules and regulations and utilizes required safety equipment. Detect malfunctioning equipment or any unsafe conditions and notify appropriate personnel. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition. 9. Perform other similar duties as required by responsibility or necessity, or as requested by supervisor.
