Digital Imaging

Medical/Dental Radiology

Sensors used in medical and dental radiology are very sensitive to X-Ray exposure. Incom’s fused fiber optic faceplates not only eliminate the damaging X-Rays but also transfers the image seamlessly to the detector itself. Regardless if it is 3cm x 3cm or 30cm x 30cm, the Incom faceplate attenuates as much as 99.9% of all harmful X-Rays from reaching the CMOS or CCD sensor for a medical or dental detector. A scintillator is applied to the fiber optic faceplate and then the sensor is bonded directly to the other side of the faceplate for a 3 piece assembly for a medical or dental detector.

Digital Imaging

Non-Destructive Imaging

Non-destructive imaging is a method of analyzing different types of manufactured components to verify the internal structure and integrity of the specimen. This process requires high dose X-Ray energy in order to penetrate the material and provide an accurate image. Incom has created a low-browning glass fiber optic (Radiation Hard Glass) optimized for high radiation dose applications such as NDT. Many standard fiber optics not optimized like this material would brown over time and exhibit reduced transmission from what was originally measured. With this technology scientists and engineers can use their equipment reliably over and over again and have the confidence that their images and results will not change over time.

Scientific Imaging

Electron microscopy is a is a technique to acquire high resolution scientific images of biological and non-biological specimens. A specific type of EM is a transmission EM (TEM) which is used to image the interior of cells, the structure of protein molecules, the organization of molecules in viruses, and the arrangement of protein molecules in cell membranes. Incom’s fused fiber optic faceplates are used as an imaging window to protect the digital sensor in these systems and transfer the collected image with high resolution and high contrast, while optimizing speed and minimizing noise.

Emerging Displays

Aviation Displays

Large displays used in aviation create an excess amount of light that is then reflected within the canopy and potentially blinding for the pilot and co-pilot of the aircraft. Incom’s low numerical aperture fused fiber optic faceplates and DARC Glass provide a solution to this problem. The plate is applied directly to the backlight and provide a very accurate viewing angle for the pilots as well as absorbing unneeded high angle light that would have been previously a cause of unwanted and dangerous reflections.

Automotive Displays

Watching a movie on your personal display as a passenger in a vehicle would be great, but it is illegal for the driver to see this display while active. Incom’s fully customizable DARC Glass provides a solution to this problem. The plate is applied directly to the backlight and allows for a very accurate viewing angle and directed perfectly for just the passenger and no one else to see the display. This type of use of our technology enables the ongoing development and improvement of infotainment as well as expands the possibilities where displays otherwise could not be used.

Picture Key Technology

The many LED buttons used in casino gaming and broadcast video switchers have proven to have short lives as well as poor image and color clarity from one button to the next. Prior to Incom’s fused fiber optic polymer button array there were solutions for this but at very high costs. The Incom button array allows for a single basic LCD display to be used across all buttons. With one display, not only is the lifespan of the display 10x longer, but additionally the color and clarity from one button to the next is identical within the system itself. The Incom polymer button array allows for ease of design and display replacements as well as enables a lower cost solution.

Genetic Sequencing

DNA analysis has allowed scientist to see into the depths of humankind, but the speed to do this was not always quick. For years Incom provide microwell well arrays into the genetic sequencing market in order to increase the amount of analytical zones by as many as 30,000 times the standard amount. This allowed scientists to reduce the time to map a human from years to days, and Incom was fortunate to be on the cutting edge of this ground breaking technology. Incom continues to provide microwell arrays into a variety of ever expanding applications for microfluidic analysis.

Life Sciences

Cell Sorting

Cell sorting methods are used to separate cells isolated from an organism’s tissues according to their type. Cells are mostly commonly separated relying on differences in cell size, shape (morphology), and surface protein expression. The more accurate the cell sorting is, the more accurate the development of the final product and overall use for a patient. Incom’s capillary arrays allows for exactly this. By fully customizing a capillary array plate Incom has provided the exact through hole size their user need with incredible tolerances and accuracies.

X-Ray Crystallography

By creating larger and larger imaging areas, using the technique of arraying multiple tapers to one another, the time it takes to map a crystal for drug discovery becomes that much quicker. With more and more data being collected as efficiently as possible then the lower the overall cost of life saving pharmaceuticals.

High Energy Physics

The mission of high energy physics is to explore the elementary constituents of matter and energy, the interactions between them, and the nature of space and time. It is through this research that we seek to understand where we come from and what the future holds. Incom’s MCP and LAPPD technologies are designed to help do just that. Our MCP’s power the spectrometers that identified water on Pluto and investigate atmospheres all over the universe. Our LAPPD’s are being developed to enable experiments that will solve the mysteries of Dark Matter and finally explain what the most brilliant minds in history have yet to explain, who are we and why are we here. Incom is very proud to play a key role in this profound research and is committed to advancing the critical technologies necessary for this ultimate search for truth.

Homeland Security

When it comes to protecting our homeland, detecting threats early and accurately can mean the difference between life and death. Whether it is being able to see in the dark or determining the exact location of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, Incom is developing technologies that intend to keep us safe. For over 30 years we have been helping to protect our soldiers on the battle field and at home with optics for night vision that have allowed us to “Own the Night”. Now we are proud to introduce our LAPPD, the world’s most powerful photodetector with the ability to detect even the smallest amount of nuclear material and its location. This gives us the ability to find and eliminate a threat before it can be realized. At Incom, we remain committed to advancing the technologies necessary to protect the security of our Homeland.
